  • PART II

Brotha Lok is a French music producer from Toulouse.

In the late 90's, he found in Hip-hop culture his means of expression, breakdancing at first and beat making since then.

Through collaborations with local and international artists (10vers/FR, Afu-Ra/USA, Blacka/VN) and battles (winner of the beat making contest “Drop the Beat 2012” organized by CMF Production judged by Logilo, Nodey and Al’Tarba in Toulouse), he has been improving his techniques of sampling. He graduated in 2023 with a Bachelor in Audio Production at the IMAAT (Institute of advanced media, art and technologies/France).

His first solo album, the instrumental album “Tru Lai : Flèches contre balles”, setting to music his feelings as being an Eurasian, is released on Saigon Supersound in 2023.

His artist name refers to his Vietnamese name Lộc. He is of the White Thai/Thái Trắng minority background, an ethnic group from North Vietnam.

Feeling the need to connect stronger to his asian roots, Brotha Lok has been undertaking projects related to Vietnam into linguistics (with the CNRS - French national center for scientific research) and music.

He started making beats for Vietnamese band Hazard Clique and rapper Blacka in 2015.

In 2019, during the Villa Saigon artist residency organized by the French Institute, he produced an album for the Saigonese rapper Blacka, using mainly and purposely pre75 Vietnamese music samples, including the single hit “Sai Gon Co Em” with more than 30 million YouTube streams until today after it was performed on the popular TV show “Rap Viet 2” by Blacka. The album is released with Warner Music in Vietnam.

His interest in Vietnamese pre75 music made him get to know DJ Slowz from Hanoi and Saigon Supersound. The relationship started with a remix he did for the title "Hào Hoa" performed by Saigon Soul Revival featuring Blacka.
